6 Bedside Essentials That Help Me Reach the Land of Nod

To be a fully functioning human, I need to have at least seven hours sleep a night. Eight is preferable. I can even push that to nine at the weekends.

However, I’m not the kinda gal who can jump into bed and immediately conk out. Oh no. I have a six-step routine that I need to complete first, much to Al’s frustration.

To kick things off, I first have to dowse my pillow in my wonder product, This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray. I adore the smell of lavender, vertivert and chamomile. It’s just so intoxicating, heavenly and comforting at the same time. I get a big whiff as soon as my head hits the pillow and that’s me gone to the land of nod. I use the Deep Sleep Stress Less roller ball if I need an extra hit to calm my anxious mind.

As a contact lense wearer and someone who doesn’t seem to fully close their lids when they blink, my eyes get really dry and irritated if I don’t keep them lubricated. I squirt two drops of Hycosan Eye Drops in each eye every night, to make up for the fact that I probably should be doing this during the day too.

I’ve taken to using Jojoba Oil in a bid to help revive my legs from their scaly, lizard-like appearance. They get so dry in the winter and as I fail at applying moisturiser after a shower, they just get worse and worse. Hence why my lower half looks like a reptile. The jojoba oil feels like it’s really replenishing my skin and my legs drink it in, gasping for any droplet of moisture they can get.

I also have to slather my poor hands in moisturiser as they get shredded to absolute pieces. I get dry skin between my fingers and this spreads to my knuckles when it’s really bad. I’m guilty of not always drying my hands properly and despite having head cream in my bathroom, I barely use it. I’m rubbish. Which is why I try to make up for my sins at night.

This post would not be complete unless I gave Elizabeth Arden’s 8 Hour Cream a shout out. This stuff is my saviour. You can whack it anywhere and it will soothe, calm and restore. Again, when the weather changes, it cause my lips to flake meaning it’s never 100% safe to wear a bold lipstick. I have to apply balm super regularly throughout the day and a generous smear at night to keep them looking healthy. I also feel like I’ve had this tube for way longer than it’s best before date but it’s the gift that keeps on giving and I don’t want to buy a new one yet.

My work mate Sanj, aka K.O Rasoi, bought me this Review Your Day Three-Year Journal and it’s worked to completely change my mindset before going to bed. Having to choose a highlight from the day makes me focus on the good parts, no matter how shit a day might have been. When I’m feeling tired and deflated I flick through some of my earlier entries to reflect on all the lovely things that have happened so far this year.

And that’s it. My six-step night-time routine. Eye mask on. Alarms set. G’night.

And yes, my eye mask is covered in bunnies because I am obsessed.
