Today I Dressed Like a Cowgirl

I don’t know what it is but something about wearing a classic striped top, denim pinafore and white patent brogues made me feel like a cowgirl today. And I bloody loved it.

Today I got called Cotton Eyed Jo, which is actually my country and western stage name. I got asked where my horse was and if I was a mate of Grayson Perry’s. All compliments in my book.

But then again, it doesn’t really matter what others think or say, as long as you’re happy right? And I most definitely am. That’s all.

How To Wear a Denim Pinafore in Winter

Sometimes all you want to do is pull out your pale denim pinafore, add some stripes and your red Dorothy boots and click your heels together. And that’s just what I did.

Sometimes I like to dress my age and other times I like to try and transition my summer wear to winter. This weekend was no exception. When all I plan on doing is running errands and relaxing at home, I like to do so in comfort. The above outfit is no exception. I wore this denim pinafore pretty much all summer, wheeling it out with a cute vest top and flat sandals. But that doesn’t mean I can’t still wear it when the weather gets colder. I just throw on a few more layers and play it a little smarter.

Add tights
The thicker and higher the denier the better.

Layer it up
Replace cute camis with oversized men’s shirts, see how I wear Al’s here, and long-sleeved tees.

Pull on a jumper
Whether you wear it underneath, tucked into the pinafore or chuck it on over the top, transforming the pinafore into a skirt, a jumper is a must for warmth.

Finish with boots
Red glittery ones are optional. But will always win.

More is always more in this instance. Go forth, bust out your summer clothes and layer, layer, layer.

All the Animal Print

Sometimes, I’ll pull on a coat, scarf and shoes and rush out the door before realising that I’m wearing a lot of animal print. But how much is too much?

My cousin would come out in hives if she saw print, on top of print, on top of print. Especially because my scarf is a purple and gold animal print, clashing with the neutrals on my coat. Throw in the fact that I’m wearing striped socks and I know she’s currently hyperventilating.

To me, this will never be too much. I am a lover of all prints, I just so happen to own a helluva lot of the animal-printed variety. I went head-to-toe here and I loved it. And I will be rocking it again.

So what if Pat Butcher is my idol…

Confession, I Like to Steal My Boyfriend’s Clothes

I have a confession to make, I like to buy Al clothes that I can then steal for myself. Case in point this maroon spotted H&M shirt, which I bought him for his birthday this September, and then wore for myself this weekend.

Shirt, Al’s | Dungaree dress, ASOS | Tights, Primark | Brogues, c/o Clarks* | Watch, Michael Kors

There really is nothing better than an over-sized man’s shirt. As you already know, I’m not into tight,
fitted clothes so any opportunity to throw on something of Al’s, I’ll take it. Shirts, jumpers, tees, you name it, I’ll wear it all.

I was looking for an excuse to bust out my
denim dungaree dress this weekend and this shirt seemed like the perfect choice. When
teamed with thick black tights and brogues, who says you can’t wear a light
denim dress in the winter. I like the preppy vibe it has going on.

For me this shirt is the absolute business.

I’d also like to show off my new kicks (I’ve always wanted to type that phrase), these fringed (hell yeah) brogues are the latest addition to my already over-flowing wardrobe and I for one am not complaining. Thanks Clarks for hooking me up. See all their brogues here.

What I Wore Today: Checkerboard Dressing

For a while now I’ve been wishing that the weather would just hurry up and turn cold already. Today my wishes were answered.

This morning I got to pull out thick black tights, my trusty Topshop brogues and my animal-print Zara coat, which probably makes me happier then it should.
You see, I’m just one of those weird people who loves winter. I like the cold. I love throwing on as many layers as possible and looking like the Michelin man. I look forward to wrapping giant scarves round my neck and pulling on a garishly-jewelled beanie.
Winter is the time my wardrobe – full of printed, long-sleeved shirts, chunky jumpers, wool dresses, leather skirts, shorts and trousers – gets to shine.
And I fully intend on reveling in that fact.
What I’m Wearing:
Coat, Zara
Shirt, Forever 21
Skirt, Matalan
Tights, Tesco
Brogues, Topshop
Necklaces, Forever 21

What I Wore Today: Little Red Bird-Print Dress

I hate Monday’s. Every Sunday I get the blues and dread what Monday has in store for me. In reality it’s never that bad and I always make it through, but I do so by having something to look forward to.

Today, it was my new little red dress.

Dress, Darling c/o TK Maxx. Shoes, Miss KG. Watch, Micheal Kors. Leather bracelet, Whistles.

The bright red colour, the Peter Pan collar and the cute bird print make this the perfect summer dress for work, even though the sun didn’t really make an appearance today.
I kept things simple, pairing the dress with my normal jewellery and strappy sandals. Instant mood brightener.

My Hunt for the Perfect Denim Pinafore

I feel like this post has been a long time coming. I first started raving about denim pinafore’s back in May when I wanted this one, then again in June with this one. I bought the latter but hated the way it looked on me. The body was far too over-sized and it barely covered my butt cheeks, not the look I was going for. In the end I left it, giving up on the hope of finding the perfect pinafore.

Until now.

Denim pinafore, ASOS. Vest, fashion mag freebie. Bandeau, Primark. Sandals, Zara.

I found this on ASOS (again) while shopping for last minute Latitude essentials and decided that I had to give it one last try. That if it didn’t work I would just give up and move on. I’m pleased to say I’ve kept it.
This is the perfect pinafore for me. It’s a great length, hitting a few inches above the knee, is completely backless apart from the two straps and has a massive pocket in the front panel. It makes me feel like I’m five again, but I like it. I’ve been mixing it up wearing the straps straight rather than crossed. In my dream world It would have had two pockets in the skirt, but I can live without.
Check it out for yourself here.
You may also have noticed that I got my hair did, touching up my highlights for summer. I’m blonde again. Hell yeah.

Brick Wall Vs Milk Maid

Today, when getting dressed, I chose to channel a brick wall and a milk maid. It wasn’t intentional, the not-so-new boyf actually pulled this outfit out of my wardrobe. It was only when someone at work commented that I noticed.

The brick print tee is obviously an Olivia Rubin number and a complete favourite of mine. As for the skirt, I want to say it’s from River Island but I’m not so sure. Either way, it always reminds me of a milk maid. The blue and white strips, the nipped in waist, the full skirt, I just need my hair in plaits and a cow to milk.

Top, Olivia Rubin. Skirt, River Island. Sandals, Zara. Sunglasses, Fiorelli.

I’m still trying to wear as little as possible to beat the heat. I have to say the worst part is my train journey, my old rickety train has no air con. Massive sweat pit. That’s a lovely thought to end on.
