As I edge further into my thirties, I’ve noticed that it’s the small, simple things in life that get me excited. I’m talking about buying new bedding and making sure it’s 100% cotton and pleated so I don’t have to iron it. I’m living my best life, let me tell you.
I wanted to make a list of those joyful things and then see how many you can tick off alongside me. Ready? Let’s go.
- Becoming a member of the RHS and being able to visit Wisely Gardens whenever we’d like to admire the flora
- Hanging the washing outside
- Watching the sun shining through the shutters at 3pm in the afternoon and spattering shadows across the bed
- Sitting in the living room in the evening and admiring our garden and all of the efforts we’ve put into it
- Watching the birds eat the seeds from our feeder
- Going for a morning walk by the river to start my day right
- Cleaning my house on a Thursday eve/Friday morning so it’s ready for the weekend
- Taking cuttings from the garden to put in vases around the house
- Going out for dinner and being home and in your pyjamas before 9pm
- Buying jungle-inspired tea towels
- Planning home DIY projects – you should see my Excel spreadsheet!
I asked on Instagram for you guys to get involved and I’m pleased to say that you are MY PEOPLE! Common themes include fresh laundry, garden centres and early nights…
On Instagram you said:
- A monthly takeaway and a film for treat night
- A nice clean house
- I just got a new vacuum and I practically danced around the house while using it
- Exploring a National Trust site and drinking tea out of a teapot
- Not having to explain why I want to go to bed at 9pm
- Rioja being on offer in Co-Op and low-FODMAP
- New fabric softener. A new candle. Washing bed sheets and putting them back on
- Drying clothes on the line and filling my calendar
- Using the excuse “Sorry, I’m old” to get out of stuff
- Going to bed early!
- I was a mum of two by then so small stuff like having a wee in peace and sleeping 8 hours!
- Taking my bra off to watch telly
- Finally facing my fears
- Not quite 30 but being able to do the washing, dry it out on the line and put it away on the same day…WIN!
- Laundry on the line! Sniffing fresh laundry! The first sip of coffee. Houseplants that STAY ALIVE
- Choosing household cleaning products eg eco-friendly limescale removers. ROCK’N’ROLL
- Choosing furniture for a new flat
- Hoovers!
- Cafes, garden centres and cake… preferably in one visit
- Successfully installing a new WIFI thermostat in your house
- New kitchen cupboard handles
- New appliances (fridge, stove, dishwasher, etc)
Now excuse me while I go change the bedsheets and pull on fresh pjs…
