A good shirt dress is an essential in any wardrobe and I’m about to tell you why.
But right before that, I’m going to share my favourite shirt dress with you. I got this blue and white version in the Whistles sale a good two years ago now. I couldn’t afford it full price but knew if I waited I could invest when it got knocked down in the winter sale. It’s a decision I haven’t regretted. I bought this in a size bigger than I normally wear, mainly because I like roomy clothes and also because I was afraid of it looking too tight around my hips. This leads me nicely on to my first reason…
1. They hide a multitude of sins
If, like me, you suffer from occasional bloating or are just having one of those days when you don’t really fancy showing off your figure in all it’s glory, a shirt dress is always the first option. They gently glide over your outline highlighting the good bits and blurring and softening the bad bits.
2. You can never go wrong with a collared shirt
Collared shirts mean business. They cry out to be adorned with sparkly jewels casually peeking out from under the sharp edges. They love being layered underneath a hefty knitted jumper. And I love them for that.
3. Eliminates the daily dressing dilemma
You don’t have to worry about what to wear in the morning, which I feel is a dilemma that us females experience every day. With a trusty shirt dress, you can just pull it on and go. Although I would recommend buttoning it up first.
4. Day to night
Smart enough to wear to work with flats or a pair of boots but easy enough to vamp up for after hours with a swipe of lippy. Two dresses in one. Boom.
5. They don’t ever date
A shirt dress isn’t a fad. It won’t roll in one season and out the next. It’s a basic, a staple, a sure-fire hit, lurking in your wardrobe just waiting to be worn.
I’ve currently got my eye on this navy Oversized Shirt Dress, again from Whistles. Want to know it’s main selling points, it’s oversized and loose. Essentially, that’s all I need.
