I posted back in September about how I had finally nailed a hair care routine that made my over coloured, frizzy mop feel silky smooth. Well it turns out that was just the very beginning of my obsession. My collection has multiplied from three to five key products and that’s still just the tip of the iceberg.
Firstly before we get to the nitty gritty, I feel like I should apologise for the shoddy photography. I’m still using my iPhone
until I either win the lottery and can buy a decent camera or until I
figure out the digital one. If you look closely you’ll see my little
face hiding. I’ll leave you to find where…
Anyway, back to business. I get my hair highlighted every 6-8 weeks, in all honesty it’s probably nearer to 8. I tend to look like I’m trying the reverse dip-dye trend, where you have blonde ends and dark roots. I hide these said roots with two tones of blonde, one caramel and one a little lighter. I like it to look natural because in case you hadn’t noticed, I have really dark brown eyebrows. Not that you can ever really see them under my long messy bangs – which I tend to trim myself. I digress, as always.
I’ve completely fallen in love with two brands in particular, Redken and Kérastase. I’ve found that their products suit my hair and aren’t heavy or greasy. Top of my list is Redken’s All Soft Shampoo and Conditioner. This is hands down the best shampoo and conditioner I have EVER used. I even typed that in capitals for extra emphasis. The bottles are huge and last for ages, the texture is light and it leaves my hair feeling super soft. I would never go back to anything else.
About once a week I use the Kérastase Elixir Ultime Treatment Masque. This is a luxurious, oily cream masque which I leave on for a few minutes. When you wash it out it not only leaves a nice smell but also makes your hair feel smooth and well nourished, which is important. While my hair is still damp, before running a comb through it, I use Redken All Soft Supple Touch Softening Cream. I love this stuff. It makes combing easier and leaves a nice silky texture. I can tell the difference when I forget to use it.
Finally to top this list off is the product I recommend over and over again, Kérastase Elixir Ultime Beautifying Oil. I swear by this stuff. I use it on dry hair to tame fly-aways and give my ends a bit of love. I use it as a hair mask at night to suck in all the moisture. I also put a bit through the mid section to the ends before jumping in the shower. I’m not sure why but I think it helps as my ends get extremely dry from straighteners and hair drying.
Et voila! These five babies I could not live without.
