The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Mastering a Smokey Purple Eye

Normally I’m a swipe and go kinda girl, relying on my Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze. I swipe my finger in the pot, glide it over my lid, smudge it out at the corners and voila, done. I need speed in the morning before I rush out to catch my train.

For ages I’ve been staring at Toasted and Hustle in my Urban Decay Naked Palette, wondering how best to work a smokey purple eye into the mix. I’m fond of browns and neutrals so this was slightly out of my comfort zone but a girl’s gotta try new things.

I have extremely greasy eyelids so always start with Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion working this all over. This acts as the perfect base for shadows and keeps the notorious creases at bay. I then took Toasted all over my lid and went in with Hustle in the outer corner and up into the crease, smudging as I go. I wanted the result to look fairly soft so finished with a thin line of Urban Decay Naked 24/7 Glide on Double Ended Pencil in Darkside, a gorgeous soft brown. I always have to curl my lashes as they’re so straight and find that my trusty Shu Uemura Eyelash Curlers are the only ones to tackle them. Add lashings of Lancôme’s Hypnôse Drama Mascara mascara and your eyes are good to go.

To finish my face I ran a little Soap and Glory Archery Pencil in Brownie Points through the bald patches in my brows and swiped a generous layer of Naked Ultra Nourishing Lip Gloss in Streak over my lips.

I love how it still looks neutral and could be worn everyday – if I had the time or could master applying makeup on the move that is.
