Advice needed…

Here’s the thing fellow bloggers…I need your help and advice…here’s the story…

My friends boyfriend’s dad and brother are currently trying to raise money to go Uganda this Summer to help build houses for people that are less fortunate. They have to raise a pretty hefty amount somewhere in the thousands. Before you start panicking I am not asking for money..

So me and the friend were talking about fundraisers and what would be the best way to start raising some money. So we were thinking of putting on a local fashion/ dance show using some people we know. We were obviously thinking of charging people to get in, selling cakes and drinks etc, offering treatments (manicures etc) and then if we’re lucky enough to get some goodies then we want to raffle them off..

Now at the moment these are our grand plans and obviously we have to refine them and stuff, but I wanted to do a lil post about it to see if any of you have any good ideas or ways that we can call in some clothes/stuff to raffle. We really need people to donate items to us for the raffle and also source some clothes for our fashion show…we can’t have naked models!!! Any ideas of how to approach this…I’ve never done anything like this before off my own back so I’m really not sure where to start!

Here’s the website if you’re looking for more details http://www.justgiving.com/tommarkwilliams

Any advice would be much appreciated….thanks guys…

Oooh I love this idea as a fundraiser! It’d be awesome if you went thrifting and gathered some outfits from there!

this is a great idea, I was going to volunteer for habitat for humanity too, but it was so expensive

you could always contact local artists and designers, I’m sure they’d be happy to have a place to showcase their work.
There’s also something my school does for scholarship money, which is to have an auction for painted tables and chairs, they get a lot of money every year.

I’m so bad at thinking up fundraising ideas.
I’m sure local stores/independent designers would be happy to help out with things though, especially in this economy – free advertising for them too.

Yea, talking to local boutiques to borrow clothes in return for like, free advertising during the show, or like maybe see if there are any local designers or bloggers who are incredible at DIY would be really great. Habitat for Humanity is so awesome, I went to Sri Lanka to rebuild after the tsunami and it was such a great experience! Also contact other businesses- like possibly travel agencies, bookstores, etc, and see if they’re willing to donate stuff!

Yup, I agree, start by visiting your local boutiques and see if they’d like to donate a piece of clothing (or maybe even a gift certificate) from their store…a lot of places would be more than happy to do that to get their name out there and of course, for such a great cause! Good luck–sounds like a great thing you guys are trying to do 🙂

Hmmm this is a very admirable cause so I would doubt you’d receive much rejection from those that you asked favours for! 🙂

As for the actually aquiring garments problem……. maybe you could make it a conjoint affair with a clothing chain? Perhaps give them a plan that it could be THEIR real-time fashion show? And in return you and your friend can organise it and reep any profits for charity. Tell them that it would be a good idea to broaden their customer base, inject some life into the brand? Change their marketing focus? etc?

You’ll be doing the planning yourselves but the incentive for them as that they essentially get a ‘free’ runway show. All they have to do is let you borrow some clothes?

And alongside the flyers you could ask around for some freebies too. Maybe you could tell them that as a thankyou you’ll post some tasteful adverts around the runway show?

Theres a tonne of ideas out here. Just experiment 🙂

    All the best! 😀

    xx Eeli
