Staring at the Sun

Grab your calendars, because in 13 days time, it’s my birthday. When you have your birthday so close to Christmas, or like me, stuck right in the middle of Christmas and New Year, I find it best to constantly remind your friends with a countdown to the big day. It paid off this year as I received an early present. And it was a good one.

You see I have a bestie who managed to hit the rails at nearly every sample sale that’s happened in the last two months, one of which was Victoria Beckham.

Enter my present…

I got over my sample sale jealously pretty quickly when I unwrapped this pair of Victoria Beckham sunglasses.

Firstly, these babies have a thick tortoiseshell frame, which I am all over. They’re heavy, thick, sharp and really really dark. When I pull them on, I feel like they hide a multitude of sins, you’d never know that I have no make up on (other than the lippy) and super-huge eye bags.

I’ll be pulling these bad boys out the bag as soon as I see even a glimmer of sunshine.

Thanks Lis.

Sunny Side Up

I’ve been saving this post until the weather started to behave itself. Today will be that day.

I didn’t realise, until the boyfriend pointed it out recently, that I’m a bit of a sunglasses hoarder. I’ve narrowed this post down to my four favourite pairs, but I tend to find sunglasses scattered all over the house that I’ve completely forgotten about. Because of this I never realise how many options I have and always tend to stick with my trusty Ray-Ban Wayfarers. So, for today’s post I figured I’d share my go-to sunnies.

I can’t remember how long I’ve had these Ray-Bans (above), maybe a couple of summers now. If I’m really honest, I think they suit Al a lot better than me, however I will always fight for the right to wear them. They’re a classic pair that go with any outfit on any occasion. You can’t argue with that.

These pink and grey babies are a little more kooky and fun. I picked them up last summer in Topshop, who always, always, nail sunglasses, and love them. If I’m wearing an outfit which has a retro feel I’ll grab these. Or, if my outfit is in need of some colour, these are my go to.

I would say these House of Harlow Chelsea sunnies are definitely the glammest pair I own, the most expensive I’ve paid for and the most difficult to get my hands on. I pretty much put out a begging post in March 2012 because nowhere had them in stock. It then took me a painful three months to get my grubby little paws on them, obviously I documented that moment too here.

I love the cat eye, the tortoiseshell print, just the fact that they’re bloody humongous and of course their ability to spruce up any old outfit.

My final pair are these over-sized Topshop green metal babies. I think I was drawn to the fact that they have a slight cat eye frame. They also sit quite far away from my face which helps when you have a little button nose like I do.

What I’m wearing:
Dress, Topshop
Shoes, Converse
Necklace, Topshop
Leather cuff, Whistles
Watch, Michael Kors
Ring, Whistles

There you have it, my four favourite frames that are always close by. What sunnies will you be rocking this summer?

House of Holland Eye Candy

I’m always on the lookout for a new pair of sunglasses to add to my collection. I have a mix of designer, from classic Ray Bans to House of Harlow’s Chelsea frames, to several cheap and colourful Topshop versions.

My current want list contains three from House of Holland.

1. Seeing Stars Green £180

2. Eyelashes £180

 3. Tortoise Comb Over £150

They’re all as quirky as expected. I’m immediately drawn to the tortoiseshell ones, maybe because they’re similar shape to my House of Harlow ones. As for the green Seeing Stars pair, I’m in love. I love the round 70s-style glass and the cut-out pattern around the frame. I don’t think I need to state why I like the Eyelash pair so much, do I.

Update: I Have the House of Harlow Chelsea Suglasses…

I cannot believe that I am finally writing this post… but I am. You’ll see from the pic below that I’ve managed to get my grubby little paws on the House of Harlow Chelsea Sunglasses that I wanted.

In fact, I wanted them so much I wrote a public plea on my blog and was contacted by their PR… nothing came of this, but whatever. Now they’re all mine!

And you can own them too, Amazon have them in tortoise.
Luckily when I bought mine they had a cheeky discount. Even better.

Public Plea for House of Harlow’s Chelsea Sunglasses

Sunglasses for me are a pain in the ass to find.

I have a small nose which is very upturned, so I struggle to find sunnies that one, stay on, and two, don’t swamp my face.

I’m off on holiday this April and desperately want some new ones. For the first time I want to invest in some that I really love rather than buying cheap ones from the high street – which I always manage to break.

There are only one pair on my mind at the moment… House of Harlow 1960 Chelsea Tortoise.

I cannot begin to describe my love affair with these so instead will summarise in bullet form.

  • They’re humongous
  • They are ‘cat eye’ shaped
  • They are tortoiseshell coloured
  • They are by Nicole Richie
  • They would look good on my face

My only problem is that I CAN’T find them ANYWHERE to BUY and this is causing a world of pain.

Fellow bloggers, readers, friends and family, please, please, please help me find them. I will love you forever.
