Be kind to yourself. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Have a nice day. These are my three daily mantras. And yep, I am now the proud owner of this banging Anya Hindmarch bag. Oh hell yeah.
These trousers are KILLING me. In the words of Rachel Zoe they are ba-na-nas. And I am in love with them. Possibly more than I love my bunny…
These shoes are doing funny things to me. Never before have I seriously considered parting with that much hard cash for a pair of shoes. But then again, never have I received a tax refund at the particular point where I’m considering the big purchase.
This clutch sums up my life completely. I am a self-confessed fash mag slag and I accept that title and wear it with pride.
I’m a lover of shiny, metallic things. Tell me something I didn’t know, I can hear you say. Well did you know about the brand-spanking new metallic – or as they’re calling it “foiled” – Converse. Because they’re everything and more. And my feet need them. Pronto.
There is nothing better than a skirt you can twirl in. Fact.
This mermaid-like midi is the perfect skirt for this. It sits at the waist before the pleats fall to mid calf, skimming my hips. The metallic turquoise only helps add to the effect.
Cue endless hours of fun twirling like a loon in my garden. Because there’s no better feeling.
It’s about this time every year that I realise I’ve worn any sandals that I do own to absolute death, meaning I have nothing remotely sandal-like to grace my feet when the sun comes out. This can only mean it’s time for the sandal edit, which is basically just an excuse for a spot of online shopping.
There are five categories of sandals that float my boat…
The Tough and Chunky
I’ll happily admit that I’m obsessed with Finery. For me they’re not only killing florals, but their shoes are perfect for lovers of chunky heels, block colours and a masculine feel, which is me all over. Finery describe these Leander Leather Ankle Strap Sandals as a ‘shandal’, the love child of a shoe and a sandal. They’re tough and bold, with their thick platform and hefty leather detail around the ankle. Throw them on with a pretty sundress to show them off properly.
The Classic Sliders
These ASOS Fendall Footbed Leather Sliders the pair that I can imagine reaching for the most this summer. Classic, comfortable and can be worn with absolutely anything. I have my eye on a pair of printed trousers that they’d work particularly well with. Also, Al and I have a holiday booked for September and you can’t beat a slider by the pool. Look out for that Instagram photo.
The All-Out Glitz
The magpie in me has shown my love for all things beaded, glitzy and technicoloured in these Park Lane Jewel Sliders. With metallic straps covered in a dreamy mix of sequins, jewels and beads all on top of a cork sole, I feel like my life is complete. These are all the glitz and more that I’ve been looking for.
The Tan Fringe
You can never go wrong with a spot of fringing, especially if it’s tan. If your going for the ’70s vibe this summer, than these Fringed Flat Leather Sandals are the pair for you. No question. No doubt. All you need are some crochet and fares and you’re ready.
The Wild Card
This post just wouldn’t feel right if there was no hint of animal print whatsoever. So here it is, in the form of ASOS Flick Leather Sliders. I like the way the leather straps crossover meaning not too much toe is exposed. I’m not really a toe fan and much prefer mine to be slightly more covered if possible. These are simple, sophisticated and not too garish, not sure I’ve ever written that sentence before.
There’s a definite slider theme going on this year.
Which ones would you pick?
Let’s just take a minute to cast our minds back to Wednesday. The sun was shining, there was a light breeze in the air and a feeling of calm on my normally stressful commute. Every one was digging the weather. So much so, that I deemed it only appropriate to bust out my metallic teal pleated midi skirt and rock a bit of shimmer and a bit of leg.
That’s right. I unleashed my inner Ariel and channelled a mermaid for the day.
I originally bought this skirt around the end of last year and wore it to my work Christmas party but I knew it’d be one I could wear again and again, no matter the occasion.
This time, I paired it with a plain grey sleeveless top, snake print blazer, and a statement necklace, not forgetting to mention my silver sparkly slipper shoes.
If you read my blog regularly you will already know that I’m a magpie when it comes to jewellery. I like shiny things that instantly catch the eye. Pair that with my love of statement costume jewellery and we’re laughing.
Which I am doing right now over this Delta Two-Tone Choker from recently-launched womenswear site Finery London. It looks like something straight off a suit of arms and I kinda like that about it. It’s a gorgeous mix of silver and rose gold and adorned with decorative stones. It’s unusual and not something I’ve seen before, which makes me more even more determined to own it.
I don’t want to do the obvious and pair it with all black. Instead, I want to layer this with lots of lace, mixing the tough androgynous vibe with something more delicate.
I have a feeling Finery is a site I’m going to be visiting a lot more.
