My Mum and Me: The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far from the Tree

They say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. I think you can probably tell from the picture that that’s definitely the case for my mum and me. We share an obsession for the perfect pair of heels *cough* Whistles *cough*. We have a very similar haircut, the same eye colour, share naff eyesight and have a special ability to cry at the sight of someone else’s tears.

My mum has the strength of an ox, snorts horrendously when she laughs, is bloody dangerous on a bicycle, can’t tell a story in under 10 minutes and repeats herself so often these days it’s not even funny but all that just makes me love her more. And check I have the number for the loony bin on standby.

To say my mum is my BFF is an understatement. She is the one I call in a crisis, the one I rely on to tell it to me straight, cheer me up when I’m down, listen to me moan for days, the first one I call with good news and is always there no matter what. She put her career on hold to raise me and my little brother and I’m forever indebted for the wonderful childhood she and my dad gave us.

My mum is my idol and I hope that when I eventually have kids, I can give them everything she gave me; inner strength, overwhelming love and support and the ability to laugh when things look bleak. She’s a tough cookie and my absolute rock.

Happy Mother’s Day, mum.
